Most of the recaps of and interviews surrounding Tarantino's CSI episode explain its backstory thusly: "Grave Danger" was originally intended as a single-hour episode but was expanded to two parts to accommodate Tarantino’s storytelling. The AV Club elaborates: "the extra time has more to do with building tension patiently and methodically than dragging it out needlessly."
